Textured textiles
Thursday, September 18, 2014

Almost a year since we went to Morocco. If I had to sum up the most inspiring thing which I got out of the trip, it would be texture. This Berber rug had the patina of age and was even threadbare in a few places. However, it still had a really rough handle, almost like Braille. As for the encaustic tiles - their bold colours and intricate patterns seem to be getting more and more familiar back home, but seeing them in a shop, next to a donkey cart and peeling walls set them off somehow. Yes colour, yes pattern, but textiles also need texture to get that elusive tactile depth. Donkeys optional.
